Haze shrouds city as PM2.5 spikes

Fine dust reached unsafe levels in 45 out of 48 areas in greater Bangkok on Thursday, with Bung Kum district reporting the highest concentration of particulate matter in the air, said the Pollution Control Department.

Across the capital, the level of particulate matter measuring 2.5 micrometres or less in diameter ranged between 47-81 microgrammes per cubic metre (µg/m³) over the past 24 hours.

The safe threshold, according to the PCD, is 50µg/m³. Bung Kum had the highest reading of 81µg/m³.

Unsafe levels were also reported in Bang Khunthian, Bang Na, Din Daeng, Pathumwan, Thon Buri, Wang Thonglang and Yannawa.

The PCD said hazardous levels were reported in Nonthaburi's Bang Kruai and Pak Kret districts; Pathum Thani's Khlong Luang district; Samut Prakan's Bang Sao Thong and Phra Pradaeng districts, and Samut Sakhon's Muang district.
