Cops bust Line dealers with 120kg haul

Two men were arrested for ordering a 120-kilogramme shipment of cannabis online to distribute to customers in Phuket, according to local police.

Pol Col Theerawat Liamsuwan, chief of the Muang district police station, said on Monday that Chaiwat Semsawat, 54, and Chana Chulak, 44, were nabbed as they picked up the shipment delivered from Bangkok. Undercover agents had tipped off police to the drugs handover.

Investigators said the pair had collected the cannabis in a hired tuk tuk. Seized during the arrest were 120kg of cannabis wrapped in 79 plastic bags and packed in large cardboard boxes.

Investigators said one suspect confessed to ordering the drug through the Line chat application from a man named Kwamkid, who offered the men 5,000 baht to deliver an additional amount to customers of his in tambon Rassada of Muang district.

Elsewhere, three people were arrested for possessing more than 200,000 methamphetamine tablets and five kilos of cannabis in the northeast province of Kalasin.

Worachit Somransom, 49, Praimanee Kotsakueng, 35, Anisara Khemthong, 27, were caught with 228,000 meth pills and the cannabis in Muang district.

Pol Maj Gen Somneuk Mikwan, chief of Kalasin provincial police, said investigators found the drugs were smuggled from a neighbouring country after the New Year holiday.

He said the three suspects were intercepted in two pickup trucks at a resort in Somdet district.

Mr Praimanee and Ms Anisara were nabbed in one vehicle in which 24 meth pills were found. The bulk of the pills and the cannabis were hidden in the other truck driven by Mr Worachit.

Police said Mr Worachit admitted he was hired for 30,000 baht by a Lao national to transport the drugs from the border province of Amnat Charoen to Khon Kaen.
