Cops identify 13 heist shooting suspects
Police have identified 13 suspects who own the same type of gun used in a Lop Buri gold-shop robbery last week in which three people were killed and four injured, with Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon saying the perpetrator will be identified in two days.
Pol Maj Gen Natthaphon Supharason, Lop Buri police chief, said the suspect "may have been a military man or a local civilian", adding that 13 people who own a 9mm gun have been identified as suspects. Of the 13 implicated, two are soldiers.
"Police have worked hard and investigators have made good progress. We are confident that the killer will be identified in two days," Gen Prawit told the media on Tuesday.
Pol Maj Gen Natthaphon said police have also collected the names of people in the province who own a red and white Yamaha Fino motorcycle.
The man behind the gold-shop robbery was seen fleeing on a red and white Yamaha Fino after shooting dead three people, including a two-year-old boy, on Jan 9 at the Aurora Gold Shop in Robinson Department Store in Lop Buri.
Police have also asked mobile phone network operators to provide access to customers' information, while investigators are seeking information from shooting ranges in the area to see if the killer may have gone there to practise shooting.
Pol Maj Gen Natthaphon said police have already obtained security camera footage to see who drove past the store on that day. Police have also raided some villages in the vicinity to follow up leads.
"We are getting closer to making an arrest as the list of suspects has been narrowed down and we are gathering pertinent information," he said.
