KHON KAEN: A monk was found dead in a rice field in Muang district of this northeastern province on Monday morning, police said.
Pol Capt Yongyuth Sadao, of Muang Kao police sub-station, said villagers reported finding his body near Ban Kut Kwang of tambon Muang Kao.
Forensic police and a doctor from Srinakarind Hospital were sent to investigate the scene.
The monk, who was not named, was found about 10 metres from a ramshackle shelternear a pylon supporting high-voltage transmission cables. The body was swollen and in a state of early decay.
The police took a metre-long length of wood with blood stains, a liquor bottle and a pair of shoes from the scene for examination. The monk was believed to have died on Sunday
The investigation was continuing.
