More smog in Bangkok

The level of fine dust particles again exceeded safe health levels in 27 districts of Bangkok on Tuesday morning.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s environment office reported that levels of hazardous PM2.5 particulates in the air were at 46-77 microgrammes per cubic metre, exceeding the government's safety standard of 50 mcg in 27 districts. The average reading in the capital was 59 mcg.

City clerk Silapasuay Raweesangsoon said unsafe level were recoreded in Samphanthawong, Phaya Thai, Wang Thonglang, Pathumwan, Bang Rak, Yannawa, Chatuchak, Bang Kapi, Lat Krabang, Klong San, Bangkok Noi, Phasicharoen, Bang Khen, Bang Phlad, Bang Khunthian, Phra Nakhon, Sathon, Klong Toey, Bang Sue, Laksi, Bung Kum, Suan Luang, Lat Phrao, Sai Mai, Huai Kwang, Don Muang and Phra Khanong districts.

She advised that if people have a cough or breathing difficulties they should avoid outdoor activities and wear protective masks if they must go out. 

The BMA had ordered all district offices to spray water on roads, trees and bus stops every day to reduce accumulated dust in the air, Ms Silasuay said.

The air quality in other the provinces across the country was rated very good to bad, with levels of 17-82 mcgs.

Areas with levels of ultrafine dust exceeding safe levels included:  tambon Ban Nua in Muang district of Kanchanaburi, tambon Nai Muang of Khon Kaen’s Muang district, tambon Wang Yen of Chachoengsao’s Plaeng Yao district, tambon Bowin in Chon Buri’s Sri Racha district, tambon Mae Pa in Tak’s Mae Sot district, tambon Nai Muang of Nakhon Ratchasima’s Muang district, tambon Pak Nampho in Muang district of Nakhon Sawan, tambon Bang Kruai and tambon Bang Phud in Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi, tambon Tha Thum in Sri Maha Phot district of Prachin Buri, tambon Pratuchai in Ayutthaya’s Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district, tambon Pluak Daeng in Rayong’s Pluak Daeng district, tambon Na Muang in Ratchaburi’s Muang district, tambon Song Khanong in Phra Pradaeng district and tambon Pak Nam in Muang district of Samut Prakan, tambon Omnoi in Krathumbaen district of Samut Sakhon, tambon Na Phra Lan in Chalerm Phrakiat district and tambon Pak Phriew in Muang district of Saraburi, tambon Aranyaprathet in Sa Kaeo’s Aranyaprathet district, tambon Sanam Chai in Suphan Buri’s Muang district, tambon Na An in Muang district of Loei, and  tambon Na Chak in Muang district of Phrae.
