SA KAEO: A man was seriously wounded after being attacked by a gaur while looking for wild products in the Pang Sida National Park in Muang district on Monday.

Booncherd Charoensuk, the national park chief, said the incident was reported at the park's office by a man, aged about 25.

The man, who was not identified, said while he was accompanying another man, who was about 50, inside the national park looking for forest products about 20 kilometres from the park's office on Monday, they encountered a gaur.

The gaur charged at them and rammed into the older man, who was also not identified. The man was gored in the belly.

The younger man said he ran for his life and escaped unhurt. He walked to Ban Tha Kabak and went to the park's office to seek help.

Mr Booncherd said park officials and rescuers from an emergency rescue of the Sa Kaeo provincial administration organisation were mobilised to launch a search, which started shortly after sunset.

Before dawn on Tuesday, they found the man who was horned by the gaur in the belly. The man was lying on the ground with a large, deep wound.

The rescuers took him to Sa Kaew Hospital for treatment.
