Online gambling bust in Hat Yai

SONGKHLA: Eight people were caught running an online gambling operation at a house in Hat Yai district, with at least 10 million baht in daily circulation, police said.

Crime Suppression Division police raided the house at Piamsuk housing estate in tambon Khohong on Thursday.

They found eight people, five women and three men, seated at computers and providing online gambling services. Computers, Internet equipment and bank account books were seized as evidence.  

The five women were - house owner Natthaniporn Aramrom, 26; Pornnapha Thanee, 20; Natthaya Raktasing, 24; Suchawadee Klomsuriyawong, 26; and a 17-year-old.

The three men were - Thanakorn Raksapakdi, 32;  Watcharin Urairat, 24; and a 18-year-old.

The raid followed information from a police informant that a group of young people had posted messages and photos on a Line Chat group encouraging people to gamble online. 

An investigation tracked the operation to a house in tambon Khohong in Hat Yai, CSD police said.

They obtained a court search warrant and raided the house. This online gambling operation had a daily turnover of at least 10 million baht, according to police.

Ms Natthaniporn, the house owner, allegedly admitted running the operation and said the others were her  employees,  tasked with posting advertisements online and checking money transfers from customers.

They were initially charged with colluding in online gambling and violating the emergency decree banning group gatherings They were taken to Khohong police station.
