SAKON NAKHON: Two of the five prisoners who escaped from a prison in Sawang Daen Din district of this northeastern province on Friday have been recaptured, according to media reports.
Five prisoners, who were new inmates convicted for drug offences, broke out of a detention cell at about 2am on May 1. The cell was intended to keep the new inmates in quarantine for 14 days.
They broke through the ceiling of the cell and slipped out through a hole. They then threw a canvas sheet over the prison's perimeter wall, scrambled over it and escaped.
The five were identified as Patpong Kesikhamsai, Suriyan Supanprasert, Wattanachai Panpakdi, Panupong Khotchomphu and Anon Lakkham.
On Saturday, acting on information from his mother, Sakon Nakhon police recaptured Panupong from a house about two kilometres from a police station in Kham Ta Kla district.
On Sunday, another escapee, Patpong, surrendered to Kham Ta Kla police, after his relatives contacted the police to ensure his safety.
The other three escaped prisoners were still on the run.
