PHITSANULOK: Parts of Nakon Thai and Chat Trakan districts of this lower northern province were ravaged by summer storms on Tuesday, causing widespread havoc, local media reported.

In Nakhon Thai distict, heavy downpours and strong winds that began at about 4.30pm and lasted over one hour caused many trees to fall across the road between Kaeng Wa and Kaeng Hai villages in tambon Nong Krathang.

A power blackout hit many villages in the area.

In nearby Chat Trakan district, big trees fell across Highway 112 (Chat Trakan-Nakhon Thai) at kilometre marker 28 near Nong Bua Khao village in tambon Tha Sakae, blocking traffic.

Highway officials and village defence volunteers used motorised chainsaws to cut the tree trunks and branches to clear the highway.

Provincial disaster prevention and mitigation officials were examining the damage causedby the storms in the two districts.
