Body of gaur was 'dissected'
The carcass of a gaur has turned up dissected in the Wang Nam Khieo Conservation Forest in Nakhon Ratchasima's Khon Buri district.
Komsan Maneekan, chief of Thap Lan National Park Region 5 joined various state agencies in examining the area yesterday after villagers alerted the authorities to a gaur carcass in the forest in tambon Chorakhe Hin.
The gaur believed to be around 10 years old and weighing about 800 kilogrammes was found in the deciduous forest eight kilometres away from the community.
Only the bones remained, they said. However, its horns were still intact and bone parts were found scattered about the area.
After investigating, officials were unable to find any animal traps or bullet traces. As a result they could not determine the cause of death.
The officials were also unable to find any traces of fatal wounds but did find wounds possibly left by a knife.
The officials estimated that the gaur may have been dead for a month or so before being discovered.
The officials suspected the gaur was looking for food when it died due to unknown circumstances before unknown persons came across it and dissected it for its meat.
