Four people have been arrested and more than 1 million speed pills seized from two houses in Bangkok which were used to store drugs smuggled from Laos.

A combined team of soldiers, police and officials from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) arrested the three suspects – two men and one woman – during a raid on two houses at Nakkila Laemthong housing estate in Saphan Sung district on May 10, ONCB secretary-general Niyom Termsrisuk said on Thursday.

Seized from the houses were 1,036,000 speed pills wrapped in packs inside five boxes.

The suspects were Seehasuemuding Hayeejaedeng, 38; Ms Assana Damae, 34, and Mahamasaharee Dayor.

Authorities later arrested a fourth member of the gang in Narathiwat province.

Mr Niyom said the suspects were members of a drug gang in the deep South. The drugs were smuggled from Laos via the Northeast and were later kept in Bangkok before being sent to Sungai Lolok district of Narathiwat.

Drastic crackdowns on drugs in northern border provinces have forced drug smugglers to change the transit route of drugs. They had smuggled the drugs into the country via the Mekong River, said the ONCB secretary-general.
