TAK: A Covid-19 screening unit in Mae Sot district of this northern border province was raided by a group of at least three men who destroyed state property and a "pantry of sharing" early on Sunday, police said.

The unit, which operated under a makeshift tent, was located near a village security booth at Ban Nong Bua in tambon Mae Pa. It was intended to screen people travelling in and out of the village for fever and other symptoms of Covid-19.

A so-called "pantry of sharing" was also set up at the unit to provide travellers with food and other necessary items.

At about 1am, a group of about three men entered the Covid-19 screening unit and smashed tables, chairs and some medical equipment. They also destroyed the "pantry of sharing" and damaged the village security booth.

Preecha Sonwaew, the headman of Ban Nong Bua, filed a complaint with Mae Sot police on Sunday morning.

He said that the raiders had blatantly violated the 11pm-4am night curfew and the emergency decree.

Nobody was hurt as only a few people were manning the unit at the time of the attack.
