NAKHON PHANOM: The 16-year-old son of a teacher earlier charged with sexually abusing his 15-year-old niece has been accused of the same offence. The youth denied the charge.

The teenager, accompanied by his mother, went to Muang district police station on Friday to acknowledge charges of sexually assaulting a girl aged not more than 15 regardless of whether the girl consented.

He denied all charges and said he would fight the case. Police said they would set up a multidisciplinary team from relevant agencies to jointly interrogate the accused teen.

Police asked the court for approval to detain the 16-year-old pending further investigation. The court was still considering a request for release on bail.

The boy's 52-year-old father, a teacher on contract to a well-known high school, was arrested on May 29 for the alleged sexual abuse of his wife's teenage niece, who lived with them. He denied all charges and was denied bail by Nakhon Phanom Provincial Court.

The Appeal Court Region 4 granted him bail on May 31 after he placed a land title deed worth 500,000 baht as surety.

The Office of the Basic Education Commission ordered his dismissal without the need to wait for the results of the disciplinary investigation, as he was a contract hire not a civil servant.

The alleged sexual abuse was exposed when the parents of the 15-year-old girl filed a complaint with police in Nakhon Phanom,

They said their daughter had been staying with her uncle and aunt for three years, studying in Mathayom Suksa 1 (Grade 7) level in 2017. In May this year, the girl told them she had been sexually abused by her uncle for almost three years.

The girl later told her parents the son also allegedly abused her.
