38 Thais infected with Covid-19 in Egypt

Another 211 returning home

Thirty-eight Thais in Egypt were found to be infected with Covid-19, one of them has already recovered, the Thai embassy in Cairo said in a statement issued on Monday.

The statement said 220 Thai nationals were tested for the coronavirus on June 6. There were 10 others on the waiting list of those who registered to travel home on a special flight from Cairo to Bangkok on Monday.

Nineteen of them failed to pass the health screening. The embassy had informed Egyptian authorities about this and would follow up on it.

After the screening process the premises were disinfected, allowing the embassy to resume normal services.

As of June 8, 38 Thais in Egypt were found to have been infected with Covid-19. One of them had already recovered, the statement said.

On Monday night, the 211 Thais who passed the health screening on June 6 departed Cairo on an Egypt Air flight due to arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport on Tuesday.

On arrival in Thailand they would be placed in 14-day state quarantine.
