City Hall gives green light to more activities as curfew lifts

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has allowed 11 more businesses and leisure activities to resume in the capital including the serving of alcohol at restaurants now the curfew has been lifted.

However, internet and game cafes, some massage parlours, bullfighting arenas, fighting-fish arenas and the like are to remain closed.

The reopening of these 11 activities was approved at the meeting of the BMA's communicable disease committee.

BMA spokesman Pongsakorn Kwanmuang said that starting on Monday restaurants are allowed to serve alcohol to customers until midnight. Live music performances remain prohibited on the premises.

He stressed that even though the serving of alcohol is allowed at eateries, entertainment venues such as pubs, bars and karaoke parlours remain closed.

Mr Pongsakorn said private schools, international schools, educational institutes conducting international programmes and schools with no more than 120 students can open from today but must comply with disease control measures.

All 437 schools under the BMA's jurisdiction will open on July 1, the day when the new term for most schools nationwide starts.

Meetings, seminars, training and other events are allowed but the number of participants is limited to four square metres per visitor.

Concerts are allowed with the number of visitors limited at five square metres per visitor and no standing is allowed.

Daycare centres for children and the elderly can open with group activities limited to six people including a supervisor.

Education parks and scientific centres can open with a limited number of visitors at one time.

Film crews are limited to 150 people in the studio or on the set with up to 50 spectators allowed to watch the show.

Traditional massage parlours and health spas/saunas can open with a limited number of customers.

Group exercises in parks and other outdoor locations are allowed with up to 50 people participating and socially distanced.

Water parks, playgrounds and amusement parks can open although play time on inflatable bounce houses and the like is limited to two hours.

Sporting venues can open for lessons and competition events but no spectators are allowed. Swimming pools are also limited to eight square metres per person.
