NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: Three family members were killed, one an 11-year-old girl, and two others seriously injured when the pickup they were travelling in ran off the road and hit a tree in Sichon district on Sunday, police said.

The Ford Ranger, carrying five members of a family, was among five vehicles which departed Prachin Buri province on Sunday morning. The convoy was taking a deceased family member for burial at Ban Nathap in Tha Sala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat.

As they passed through Moo 1 village in tambon Thung Prang, on the road between Nakhon Si Thammarat and Surat Thani, the Ford ran off the road and onto the median strip and hit a tamarind tree.

A man, a woman and an 11-year-old girl died at the scene of the violent crash. Two other people, the driver and his father, were seriously injured.

The accident occurred about 40 kilometres from the Muslim cemetery at Ban Nathap.

Police were investigating the cause. A recording from the pickup's dashboard camera was taken for examination.
