Motorcycle-theft gang leader arrested

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: Police on Monday arrested the alleged leader of a motorcycle theft gang and seized 16 bikes reported stolen in three districts of this southern province.

Pol Col Sompong Thip-apakul, the Thung Song police chief, said Udomchai Sukyoi, alias Sua Om, was taken into custody at a hotel in tambon Chamai.

Arresting officers found a number of motorcycle registration books in his possession,along with drug-use paraphernalia.

Mr Udomchai allegedly said the registration books were for stolen motorcycles. Gang members had left them as collateral when he advanced them 500-800 baht against the resale value of the bikes.

He also admitted to drug use.

Using information given by Mr Udomchai, investigators we able to locate and recover 16 motorcycles stolen in Thung Song, Chulabhorn and Ron Phibun districts, Pol Col Sompong said.
