Andy Hall hit with B300m civil suit

Nakhon Pathom Civil Court on Monday accepted a 300-million-baht civil defamation prosecution brought by a pineapple company against a human rights defender.

The case involves interviews that a British man, Andy Hall, conducted with migrant workers of Natural Fruit for the Finnwatch report "Cheap Has a High Price", published in 2013.

Interviewees claimed rights violations had taken place at the Natural Fruit plant in the South.

In September 2016, the Bangkok South Criminal Court handed him a four-year suspended prison sentence, reduced by one year, with a fine of 200,000 baht, reduced to 150,000.

The Supreme Court on June 30 upheld the Appeals Court's acquittal of Hall on criminal defamation and computer crimes charges.

A defamation trial has been set for October 27-29, Hall said yesterday showing the document he had received from the court.
