KHON KAEN: A Mercedes-Benz driver has reported to police and denied assaulting the 69-year-old driver of an old Isuzu pickup he accused of cutting in front of him - despite a video showing what seems to be a punch.

Pornsak Phunchai met police at Nong Song Hong station on Tuesday and was interrogated for two hours - and then hit with two charges of assault. (continues below)

Police station chief Pol Col Borames Saikhamthon said Mr Pornsak, 49, denied the charges and will fight the case in court.

The hot-tempered driver was the subject of heated public criticism after surveillance camera footage showed him getting out of his Mercedes and angrily accosting Montri Sakhun on Friday.

The 69-year-old later registered a complaint against him at the police station.

Mr Montri said on Saturday he was punched in the right temple. He said the assailant accused him of cutting in front of his car in Nong Song Hong district. He was also forced to krab Mr Pornsak's mother, who was sitting in the car, because she was supposedly hurt.

"The man asked me to get out of my pickup and prostrate myself in front of his mother, who was sitting in the Benz. I did what he asked," Mr Montri said.

Mr Pornsak told police he did not physically attack the pickup driver and denied he had forced Mr Montri to prostrate himself before his mother, according to the police station chief.

Mr Pornsak said he got out of his car and walked over to Mr Montri because his mother hit her forehead  on the windscreen.

Pol Col Borames said police would compile their case and forward the report to prosecutors for further action in about two weeks.
