Drills on Covid protocol begin

The Defence Ministry will host two days of drills starting on Monday to prepare for a possible resurgence of Covid-19 in 11 in vulnerable provinces.

Bangkok, Chon Buri, Samut Sakhon, Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, Tak, Sa Kaeo, Ranong, Surat Thani, Krabi and Phuket have all been classified as vulnerable because of high rates of migrant labour entry and movement.

The drill, which is in preparation for the imminent re-entry of workers and tourists, will be conducted via teleconference, with the ministry's officials addressing Covid-19 response units in each of these provinces, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The Covid-19 prevention drill will focus on coordination among responsible agencies including the immigration police, the Public Health Ministry, local administration, as well as the Labour, Foreign Affairs, Interior and Education ministries.

In addition, the drill will recheck and test the readiness of IT systems, public relations channels, as well as workflow and action plans and a Key Performance Index on Covid-19 preventive measures in these areas.

After the two-day drill, the Ministry of Defence will host a dry-run to train officials and staff at the "Emergency Operation Centre" (EOC) on Covid-19 prevention for Bangkok, Chon Buri, Samut Sakhon, Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, Tak, Sa Kaeo, Ranong, Surat Thani, Krabi and Phuket provinces. It is unclear how many people are involved or how they will simulate the arrival of these groups.
