Alumni ask for probe into school director

A group of Triam Udom Suksa School alumni, former teachers and current teachers yesterday petitioned the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to look into alleged misconduct by Sophon Kamon, the school director.

Led by former deputy education minister, Krissanapong Kiratikara, a former chairman of the school's committee, the group accused Mr Sophon of dereliction of duty on several occasions, including alleged misconduct in this year's enrolment of students, which according to the group, lacked transparency in its money trail and damaged the education system.

The school director was also accused of violating the act on state procurement, according to the petition filed with the NACC yesterday.

Mr Sophon denied all the allegations made against him, insisting he is innocent.

"They want to destroy my reputation before my retirement. I'll retire in about a week from now, so they go to the media and try to make things go viral. All I can say is that I'm innocent and I've provided evidence to the NACC, the Office of the Basic Education Commission and the Education Service Area Office many times over the last seven to eight months," he told the Bangkok Post over the phone.

Mr Krissanapong said his group, along with the petition, filed 35 documents pertaining to the evidence of the misconduct allegedly committed by the school director, including a copy of the police report received when the group lodged a police complaint against Mr Sophon.
