TAK: Testing for Covid-19 has continued in Mae Sot district of this northern border province on both Thai and Myanmar nationals considered at risk after three Myanmar lorry drivers tested positive for Covid-19 at the Thai border between Friday and Saturday.
In testing conducted on Sunday on two groups of people -- 70 in the first and 51 in the second -- all of the 121 tested negative.
Three mobile Covid-19 testing vehicles were deployed on Monday for an expanded examination of people who might have been in contact with the three Myanmar lorry drivers who earlier tested positive for the virus.
On Monday, at Masjid Darul Islam in Mae Sot, 1,196 people underwent testing at the three mobile vehicles. The test results were expected yesterday afternoon.
Yesterday, the three vehicles were deployed at three locations -- Masjid Madinah at Thung Thong housing estate, Pha Charoen market and Pracharak Community. About 2,000 people were expected to be tested.
Eleven schools were ordered closed on Monday for cleaning and disinfecting. The schools remained closed yesterday, a public holiday, and will open again today.
The government yesterday reported two new coronavirus cases -- Thai men from Sweden and the United States who were in quarantine -- raising the total to 3,643.
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said the new case from Sweden was a worker aged 52 who arrived on Oct 5 via Qatar.
He was quarantined in Bangkok and his infection was confirmed by the first test on Saturday.
The following day, he had a runny nose and lost his sense of smell. He was admitted to Vajira Hospital in Bangkok.
The case from the US was a hotel employee aged 22 who arrived on Sept 29 on the same flight as two previously confirmed cases. He was quarantined in Chon Buri province.
His infection was confirmed by the second test on Saturday, day 11, while he was asymptomatic. He was receiving treatment at a hospital in Chon Buri.
Of the total 3,643 cases, 3,457 (94.9%) have recovered including three discharged from hospital over the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, the death toll remained unchanged at 59.
