Family sorry for bully's attack

Trang: The family of a Grade 2 student assaulted by a Grade 9 boy for insulting him has accepted an apology and compensation.

The incident happened on Sept 3 at a school in Yan Ta Khao district, where the younger student was beaten up by the senior for calling him a katoey, an offensive term to members of the LGBT+ community.

The younger boy suffered bruises on his face, hands and back, prompting his family to file a police complaint.

It was reported that the case dragged on because the school declined to be involved and it was left to the two families to settle the dispute.

Kajornsak Charoensopha, provincial governor, then stepped in and assigned Phanuwat Poolsawat, director of the provincial complaint centre, to broker talks between the two families.

The issue was finally resolved yesterday, when the older boy's family took flowers to give to the other family to formally seek their forgiveness for the assault.

The younger boy's family accepted the apology and 10,000 baht in compensation, while the school apologised for failing to intervene.

The mother of the Grade 2 student accepted the apology and told the senior student to control his temper better.
