Three cases in Korat, all went to Samut Sakhon

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: Three local people who recently visited Samut Sakhon province have been found infected with the novel coronavirus - two seafood vendors and a local official.

Deputy governor Saksit Sakullitkharetsima and provincial public health chief Dr Narinrat Pitchayakhamin released the details on Wednesday.

The new infections raised the total cases in the northeastern province to 22.

One was a 57-year-old man who travelled to Samut Sakhon province to buy seafood for sale in Phimai district. Eight family members were deemed at high risk, Mr Saksit said. Nine other people, eight district officials and a village headman, were considered low risk.

The second case was a 47-year-old woman, a seafood vendor in Sikhiu district. She also made a buying trip to Samut Sakhon, She fell ill on Dec 17 and sought treatment at a private hospital in Bangkok on Dec 21.

She returned to Sikhiu district on Dec 22 and tested positive for Covid-19. There were six family members who were in close contact with her.

The third case was a 43-year-old tambon official in Bua Yai district. He visited his mother in Samut Sakhon. After returning he devloped a fever, a cough and a sore throat and sought treatment at Bua Yai Hospital on Dec 18.

On Dec 22, he was tested for Covid-19 test at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital. The result was positive. Nine people who were in contact with him were at high risk, and all were now quarantined, Mr Saksit said.
