KHON KAEN: Labour authorities have warned businesses in Khon Kaen not to hire illegal migrant workers, or to move their workers out of the province, as part of measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Penwadee Rattakul, head of Khon Kaen employement office, said on Wednesday there were 7,140 registered migrant workers from Myanmar, Laos or Cambodia working in Khon Kaen.

She said 838 were Cambodians, 2,468 Lao and 3,834 from Myanmar.

The office had worked with businesses to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease and update the virus situation.

"We have provided training for migrant workers who renew their work permits, and we integrate efforts with other agencies to inspect workplaces and ensure that coronavirus disease control measures are in place,'’ Ms Penwadee said.

She had warned employers not to hire illegal migrant workers, as they were a risk group for Covid-19 infections.

Moving migrant workers outside the province was also prohibited, she said.

Officials would be sent to inspect small enterprises and construction sites, to ensure proper precautions were followed to prevent the spread of Covid-19, she added.
