Six new cases of novel coronavirus infection have been detected in Bangkok, most linked to the outbreak in Samut Sakhon province.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration spokesman Pongsakorn Kwanmuang said the diagnoses were confirmed on Friday. Four of the six had visited Samut Sakhon.

He said one of the four was an official of the Dusit district office. He went to a restaurant in Samut Sakhon and later tested positive for Covid-19.

Another was a vendor who bought goods in Samut Sakhon for sale at a market in Lat Phrao area.

A vendor who lived in Bang Kapi district also bought seafood in Samut Sakhon, at the Talay Thai market, and delivered to a sukiyaki restaurant in Lat Phrao area.

The fourth case had travelled by car to a shrimp shop in Samut Sakhon, then went to a shopping centre in Suk Sawat area and visited relatives in Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakan.

The other two were still under investigaton.

Since the Covid-19 outbreak early this year, Bangkok had logged 40 patients with the disease. Investigation was going in 27 of the cases. Seven of them were factory workers in Thawi Wattana and Bang Khuntian districts, Mr Pongsakorn said.

Health workers had tested 222 people at markets in the capital and all were negative. Most confirmed cases worked in factories where both Thais and migrant labour were employed, the BMA spokesman said.
