There is currently no plan to extend the deadline for the filing of personal tax income this year, said the Revenue Department.

Ekniti Nitithanprapas, director-general of the department, on Thursday said the agency has not received instructions from Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith regarding any deadline extension.

Last year, the filing deadline was pushed from the end of March to the end of August to help ease the financial burden of many households affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

However, no similar extension is forthcoming this time despite a recent rise in Covid-19 cases.

Mr Ekniti said the department believed the virus will be contained in two to three months.

In the current fiscal year, the filing commenced this month and will continue until the end of March, or April 8 for online filing.

Mr Ekniti said the department does not tax people who join government subsidy schemes such as Rao Thiew Duay Kan (We Travel Together) and the 50/50 co-payment scheme.

He added the Fiscal Policy Office is working to issue legal amendments to relieve people of their tax obligations under the subsidy schemes.
