Klong Toey Market, a major wet market in central Bangkok has been closed for three days, from Wednesday, after a vendor tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, a three-month-old baby has also tested positive for the virus, the youngest case so far, among 32 new cases recorded in the capital yesterday.

The vendor at Klong Toey market, who is asymptomatic, has been put in quarantine after a saliva test showed that she had been infected with the coronavirus, according to Klong Toey district director Piyada Niyom.

More than 10 people who had been in close contact with the infected vendor have been isolated, Ms Piyada said.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on Jan 10 tested over 3,000 vendors and migrant workers in the Klong Toey Market area.

The market will be closed for cleaning today and will reopen again on Saturday, she said.

The Centre for the Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) yesterday reported 32 new Covid-19 cases in Bangkok. All of them are derived from local transmissions and people were infected either after visiting entertainment areas in other provinces where Covid-19 cases were reported, or from having close contact with infected visitors.

BMA health officials are currently investigating how the three-month-old baby was infected, according to CCSA spokesman, Dr Taweesilp Visanuyothin.

Meanwhile, Mae Klong Fish Market -- another major seafood market in tambon Mae Klong of Samut Songkhram province, was declared Covid-19 free.
