Samut Sakhon has found 914 new coronavirus cases on the first day of mass active testing that will cover the entire province.

The provincial public health office reported on Friday the province added 914 new transmissions, 844 of them in active case finding.

The province also found 70 local infections, half of the Thais.

The finding brought the tally of confirmed virus cases in the province to 6,555.

The province, which is a centre of the new outbreak, started active testing in all areas on Monday and is expected to complete it this week.

The new finding on Monday was largely from factories over 1,000 workers.

Factories, dormitories and markets are among the main targets of the week-long active testing in every corner of the province. Health workers plan to test 10,000 people a day but they could test only 5,574 on Monday.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration said earlier on Monday the figures in Samut Sakhon would sharply rise as a result of active testing.
