Kanchanaburi: Two border checkpoints will reopen to allow the transport of goods from Monday onward, say local authorities.

Governor Jeerakiat Phumsawat has agreed to reopen the Ban Phu Nam Ron border checkpoint and the Three Pagodas border pass for the transport of goods effective on Monday.

However, all checkpoints must comply with strict Covid-19 disease control measures.

The Ban Phu Nam Ron border checkpoint is located in tambon Ban Kao, Muang district, opposite Myanmar's Dawei city, while the Three Pagodas border pass is located in tambon Nong Lu, Sangkhla Buri district, opposite Myanmar's Phya Thonzu town.

Earlier, the province had eased Covid-19 restrictions to allow the transport of necessary goods at the two checkpoints from Feb 3-7 from 7am to 5pm.

As of Feb 4, Kanchanaburi province reported seven confirmed Covid-19 cases in the new round of the outbreak. All the patients were treated and discharged.

Moreover, Kanchanaburi is now allowing the interprovincial movement of legal migrant workers in the freight and construction sectors, despite border crossing restrictions being extended until Feb 18.

The governor signed an order on Wednesday permitting the movement of migrant workers.

Employers are still required to seek permission from the provincial employment department to move their migrant employees elsewhere, however.

Eligible migrant workers must possess a work permit, health insurance or coverage under the Social Security System. They are also required to be tested for Covid-19 at their employers' expense.

Only those who tested negative are allowed to travel to other provinces. Moreover, migrant workers allowed to travel across provincial borders can only live and work at venues provided by their employers.

Travellers must assign persons in charge of each vehicle going with them and each vehicle must have a document showing the number of migrant worker passengers with their names to be submitted to the authorities for inspection. Every vehicle must be sanitised after use.

Upon leaving and entering Kanchanaburi, employers must take their migrant employees to see disease control officers, village headmen, community leaders, public health officers or other assigned authorities.

Employers must keep a checklist of their migrant employees' conditions and take them to a hospital if they show any Covid-like symptoms.

Employers and migrant workers are required to install the "Mor Chana" or "Thai Chana" mobile applications or keep a record of their travel.

Kanchanaburi revoked its ban on interprovincial bus services to and from the eastern province of Rayong, one of the maximum control zones, on Tuesday.

The province has reported seven confirmed cases since Covid-19 reemerged in Thailand. All seven patients have reportedly recovered.
