PHETCHABURI: Four crew members were missing and five others rescued when a fishing trawler sank in the Gulf of Thailand off Cha-am district on Saturday.
The Kor Chokchai Somboon 1 trawler from Samut Sakhon with nine crew went down about 17 nautical miles from Wat Bang Saiyoi in Cha-am, according to the 191 emergency centre in Phetchaburi, which was alerted at 11.45am on Saturday.
Rescue workers were quickly dispatched to the scene and managed to rescue five crew members: skipper Sayumphoo Itthirit, 38, and four Myanmar crew members identified as Saw El Sin, 29; Soe Lwin Oo, 47; Kyae Too, 34; and Saw Phaw Khu, 31.
The four other crew — one Thai and three Myanmar nationals — were still missing. They are engine technician Voradet Pakdeejarupat, 65; Pyae Phyo Aung, 33; Saw Aung Tun, 28; and San Kyaw Thu, 32.
The search and rescue operation is continuing.
