KHON KAEN: A 22-year-old man was found dead, his arm blown off, after a homemade bomb exploded in a field near his house in Muang district on Friday morning.

Local police were informed of the explosion, outside house No.360 in Ban Nong Kung village of tambon Ban Thum, about 11am.

At the scene, they found Amornthep Thongchomphu lying dead. One arm had been blown off and there were multiple wounds to his body. A dog had already chewed on some parts. Police also found a length of scorched, ruptured PVC pipe.

Village headman Boonruam Somwongsa said the man was jobless and stayed alone in the house. His mother worked abroad and sent him money.

Amornthap did not socialize. He had a dispute with a neighbour and on two occasions had  thrown a small bomb at his house, the headman said. The neighbour had filed a complaint.

It was likely that Amornthep was making another bomb to throw at his neighbour, and he accidentally detonated it, Mr Boonruam said.

Pol Col Surasak Manothai, chief of Ban Ped station, said a search of the dead man's home found another small improvised bomb, and bomb components possibly acquired from online suppliers.
