58 new Covid-19 cases

The government on Thursday reported 58 new Covid-19 cases, 53 local infections and five imported, raising the total to 26,598.

The Department of Disease Control said 36 new cases were detected in communities and 17 at hospitals.

Samut Sakhon province logged 38 cases, 71.7% of the daily increment. Twenty-six were found in communities (23 Myanmar nationals and three Thais) and 12 at hospitals (eight Myanmar and four Thai).

Bangkok recorded 10 new cases in communities (seven Myanmar and one each  Thai, Nigerian and Cambodian) and two Thai cases at hospitals.

Three other Thai cases were reported by hospitals in Nonthaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Ratchaburi.

The five imported cases included four quarantined arrivals, from Indonesia, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. The other is a Myanmar man, 25, who illegally crossed the border to Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Of the 26,598 total cases, 26,000 (97.7%) have recovered, including 513 discharged over the past 24 hours, and 513 are in  hospitals. The death toll is unchanged at 85.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 461,335 in 24 hours to 118.62 million. The worldwide death toll was up by 9,948 to 2.63 million. The US had the most cases at 29.86 million, up 60,355, and the most deaths at 542,191, up 1,610.
