News of the passing of Akom Preedakul, better known as "Na Kom" (Uncle Kom), was posted on Facebook yesterday morning.

His daughter, Napatcharin "Ice" Preedakul, wrote on the Kom Chauncheun Facebook page at about 7.30am that "My father rests in peace now". She had posted regular updates on his condition, which was closely followed by TV news channels.

Kom and 10 other family members were tested for Covid-19 at Serirak Hospital on April 11 after learning that a comedian he worked with, Ball Chuenyim, was infected with the virus.

On April 12, results showed that Kom was also infected, while the other family members were not, his daughter wrote.

On Thursday, Kom's condition became critical when he suffered organ failure, she said.

He died yesterday morning, and his body was cremated a few hours later at Wat Phra Sri Mahathat in Bangkok.
