Bangkok aims to inoculate 1,000 people per day

While the public is waiting for the government's vaccination scheme, Siriraj Hospital, Bangkok City Hall and members of the private sector have joined hands to inoculate up to 1,000 people per day starting some time in June.

The Thai Chamber of Commerce, Iconsiam and Charoen Pokphand Group, along with City Hall and Siriraj Hospital, are offering the public vaccination against Covid-19 at Iconsiam and True Digital Park.

Dr Prasit Watanapa, dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, said this scheme will also help vaccinate at-risk groups such as teachers and public transport drivers.

People can also get vaccinated at 126 hospitals in Bangkok, he said.

In addition, the government is set to provide vaccination to members of the Social Security Fund's Section 33.

"I am a committee member of the scheme," Dr Prasit said. "Companies can contact us to have their employees vaccinated at their working sites."

He did not say when exactly the scheme will start but he said it will primarily use AstraZeneca's vaccine in June and July.

Suphachai Chearavanont, chief executive officer of Charoen Pokphand Group, said the plan is to vaccinate 500 to 1,000 people per day but the capacity could be increased.

"As I have joined the demonstration with the BMA at the Tesco Rama 4 branch, the starting point was 500 to 1,000," he said.

"However, according to what I have experienced, the optimal number was about 2,000 people per day," Mr Suphachai said.

"Together, we [could distribute] 100,000 doses per day, which means 3 million doses a month and 9 million doses for three months," Mr Suphachai said. "So, we need about 50 jabbing [venues]."

Sanan Angubolkul, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber has helped the government by providing vaccination locations, such as department stores.

"Currently, we have done some jabbing demonstrations in four places, which are CentralPlaza Ladprao, Samyan Mitrtown, The Mall Bangkapi and Big C Bang Bon branch," he said.

"Furthermore, we are currently working closely with the BMA health department to add 11 more places," Mr Sanan added. "We will have 25 places."

He said that according to the plan, all 25 places would be launched in early June and reservations can be made via the Mor Prom mobile application. More info will released soon, he said.
