Officers from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) are travelling to Surat Thani to look into the deaths of a wealthy Thai-Indian couple, who were found dead in a hotel pool on Koh Tao over the weekend.
The CSD was ordered to investigate their deaths by Pol Maj Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, the deputy commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB).
A team of investigators will analyse the case to dispel out any doubts surrounding the deaths of Rakeshwar Sachathamakul, 59, and his wife Anshoo, 55, despite local police not finding any evidence of foul play at the scene.
The deceased's family, police said, also didn't find anything suspicious surrounding the circumstances of their death. An initial examination of the bodies concluded the couple died due to the lack of oxygen flow to the brain.
Pol Maj Gen Jirabhop said police would investigate if Rakeshwar had any business conflict.
Rakeshwar and Anshoo are believed to have drowned in the two-metre deep pool at Jamahkiri Resort & Spa on Friday. Their son, Ratish, 34, alerted police after he found his parents in the water.
Rakeshwar was the co-owner and CEO of Novotel Phuket Kamala Beach hotel in Phuket and owned Bangkapi Mansion apartments on Sukhumvit Soi 12 in Bangkok. He was the managing director of Wireform A N (Thailand) Co, a manufacturer of precision springs and plastic parts with plants in Rayong and Prachin Buri.
Pol Col Kriangkrai Kraikaew, chief of Koh Tao police, said the couple's bodies have been transferred to the Police General Hospital in Bangkok for an autopsy. Results are expected in one or two weeks.
Police were reviewing footage from CCTV cameras at the pier on Koh Tao where the couple and their son arrived from Chumphon on Friday.
Investigators were told by the resort staff the CCTV at the pool was out of order.
