The Labour Ministry made a U-turn yesterday, announcing that vaccinations in Bangkok for people insured under Section 33 of the Social Security Act would resume tomorrow after being suspended last week.
On Friday, the Social Security Office (SSO), which is under the ministry's supervision, abruptly postponed the rollout citing service improvements with further vaccinations put off until June 28.
Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin, however, said the service for employees covered by the social security scheme would resume tomorrow at a number of the 45 vaccination centres.
Mr Suchart said Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon had instructed the ministry to fix the problems that led to the service suspension.
The labour minister also gave assurances that there are no shortages in vaccine supplies.
He said the SSO had to suspend the service due to discrepancies between the number of registered recipients and the number of people who had turned up for jabs.
He said the SSO and companies involved hope to ensure people can no longer make multiple appointments, but as of now the shots would be given to those whose companies could sort out the problem.
Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul also said yesterday that about one million doses of vaccine would be allocated to the SSO for inoculations, of which 200,000 have already been handed over.
Last Monday, the SSO kicked off vaccinations for 11 million subscribers at 80 contracted hospitals across the country using the AstraZeneca formula.
In Bangkok alone, 45 vaccination centres were opened to administer the jabs, with 174,193 members receiving theirs in the opening three days.
About 2 million employees are eligible for the SSO's vaccination programme which was rolled out after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said this group would be given priority in the nationwide drive.
