Intense showers as 'Koguma' nears

Heavy showers are expected in the North and Northeast today as Tropical Storm Koguma moves closer towards Vietnam, the Thai Meteorological Department warned yesterday.

As of 4am yesterday, the tropical storm -- packing maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour -- was centred over Tonkin Bay in Vietnam. It was expected to make landfall today.

Coupled with a monsoon trough, isolated heavy to very heavy rain was expected over Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun in the North, and Loei, Nong Khai, Bung Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani.
