Cops nab 6 for gambling

Six people were arrested for operating illegal online gambling websites during the UEFA Euro 2020 football tournament, the Police Cyber Taskforce (PCT) said.

Deputy national police chief Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittiprapas, director of the PCT, announced the arrests at a press briefing yesterday. A man named Thanawit (surname not given) was arrested at Life Bangkok Boulevard housing estate on Ram Intra 65 Road in Bang Khen district for operating https://mbc.sunmcsports.com/ and Line account Berclic๘๙.

Two other suspects, identified only as Suthisak and Pongthawat, were captured at the Northern Nova housing estate in Pathum Thani's Khlong Luang district for operating the SBOUFABET website, Pol Gen Damrongsak said.

Police also raided a house in tambon Ban Ped in Khon Kaen's Muang district and arrested a man identified only as Itthipol and a woman named Pornphan for operating the Superslot website, he said. Police also detained a man named Thanawit at the Flex housing estate in tambon Ban Ped in Khon Kaen's Muang district on a charge of persuading people to gamble on electronic platforms, Pol Gen Damrongsak said.

A number of items were seized. Two cars, two computer notebooks, five bank passbooks with 50 million baht in circulation per month, 194 mobile phone SIM cards and 14 ATM cards were also confiscated as evidence.

Speaking during a live stream on the Thai Khu Fa Facebook page, Gen Prayut said he hoped the tournament would provide respite from the stress caused by Covid, adding that people must not get into debt via online gambling.
