Post-jab deaths to be probed

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) says 13 deaths which occurred after Covid-19 inoculation are not linked to the vaccines, saying investigations are still ongoing in 55 other cases.

Chawetsan Namwat, director for emergency health hazards and diseases, said that as of June 15 there are reports of 68 post-inoculation deaths and experts have ruled that 13 of them have nothing to do with the jabs and are coincidental events.

Of the 13 cases, eight were caused by a heart attack while the rest are related to various causes such as immune Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura; blood clotting in lungs; purulent meningitis; intra-abdominal aneurysm; and a ruptured aneurysm. He said the results are still pending in the 55 other cases.

From Feb 28-June 16, Thailand administered 7,003,783 doses of the vaccine with the number of fully vaccinated people now reaching 1,889,028, he said. Of the jabs given, 3,214,385 are the Sinovac vaccine. A total of 993 people had adverse side effects that required hospitalisation.

Dizziness was the most common symptom (20%), followed by nausea (15%). headache (12%), vomiting (8%), rashes (7%), muscle aches (6%), diarrhoea (5%) and itchiness (4%).

For those who received the AstraZeneca vaccine (1,943,693 doses), 472 had adverse side effects that required hospitalisation, or about 24 cases per 100,000 doses.
