New BTS station walkway connections win green light

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has approved plans to construct and improve walkways connecting large buildings with Udomsuk and Mor Chit BTS Skytrain stations.

Deputy Bangkok governor Sakoltee Phattiyakul said after a committee meeting on managing the mass-transit system in Bangkok on Tuesday that there is a plan currently being considered to construct a walkway connecting three locations.

Mr Sakoltee said at the meeting a request was proposed by Muang Thai Life Assurance Pcl (MTL) to construct a walkway connecting its 66 Tower, an office building invested in by MTL, to Udomsuk Station, which is on the Green Line extension between On Nut and Bearing stations.

During the five-year contract, it was agreed that the private firm must cover construction costs and pay for the lease every year with the BMA, he said.

Elsewhere, he said the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) has requested that City Hall allow it to improve Mor Chit Station's walkway along Phahonyothin Road by extending it northwards to Lat Phrao intersection to connect it with the Mor Chit Land building.

The BTS has no need to pay for the costs as the connection location remains on the route of its concession contracts, he said.

Mr Sakoltee went on to say that apart from that, Richy Development 2016 Co also asked City Hall to allow it to construct a walkway connecting its Rich Park Terminal condominium with Phahonyothin 59 Station, which is on the northern Green Line extension. He said the request is pending submission to the cabinet.
