Jab station hits 500k dose mark

At least 500,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administrated at Bang Sue Grand Station vaccination centre, the Department of Medical Services revealed yesterday.

Since the beginning of the vaccination drive at Bang Sue Grand Station started on May 27, around 320,000 doses of Sinovac and 180,000 doses of AstraZeneca have been administered, department director-general Somsak Akksilp said.

Dr Somsak said the centre aims to vaccinate 15,000-20,000 people per day to cover as many people in Bangkok and nearby provinces as it can.

"The Bang Sue Grand Station vaccination centre was established thanks to cooperation between the Public Health Ministry and Transport Ministry," he said.

"The idea to use the State Railway of Thailand's new mainline rail hub was aimed at easing overcrowding problems in hospitals and make it easier for people to gain access to vaccination services," the doctor added.

After opening this vaccination centre on May 27, the first group to receive vaccines there were public transport system workers before the general public began receiving vaccinations on June 7, with priority being given to teachers and school staff.

Since then the average number of people receiving jabs at the centre has been around 10,000-15,000 per day.

Institute of Dermatology director Dr Mingkwan Wichaidit said there have been minimal reports of people suffering serious side effects after receiving Covid-19 vaccines at the centre.

Only four in 1,000 people were found to have suffered notable side effects from the vaccine and only 14 people were hospitalised, he said.
