Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will self-isolate at home for a week after he came into close contact with a person who later tested positive for Covid-19 during an event held to mark the Phuket Sandbox scheme to bring in vaccinated foreign tourists.

Gen Prayut, who has been fully vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine, will work as usual and continue to monitor the nation's coronavirus situation, government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said yesterday.

"The result [of Gen Prayut's Covid-19 test] is not known yet as the test had just been conducted," he said in a statement.

His decision to self-isolate came after Veerasak Pisanuwong, the chairman of Surin Chamber of Commerce, confirmed he had tested positive for the virus after attending the Phuket reopening.
