Four senior police at Phra Ratchawang station in Phra Nakhon district have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, while 37 others who came into contact with them are now under quarantine.
Pol Maj Gen Piya Tawichai, Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) deputy commissioner, said the station chief and three of his deputies are confirmed to be infected with Covid-19. They have been admitted to hospital for treatment.
A total of 37 police who came into contact with the four are now under quarantine, he said.
Pol Col Kiattikhun Sonthinane, deputy commander of Metropolitan Police Division 6, has been appointed acting chief of Phra Ratchawang station.
Pol Maj Gen Piya said services are unaffected by the infections.
He said the MPB has a contingency plan for such situations and police from other stations will be deployed to help until the situation returns to normal.
