Bed-ridden to get jabs in own homes

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has launched a home vaccination programme for bed-ridden patients in the capital following a surge in infections among this group, city governor Aswin Kwanmuang wrote on his Facebook yesterday.

He said the BMA has therefore decided to provide a home vaccination service and urged their families to register at https://forms.gle/vW5meyKHz5dVjz2q7.

Pol Gen Aswin said the BMA also has teams of public health officials making door-to-door visits in all districts to administer jabs.

The BMA plans to vaccinate at least 80% of the elderly, or 1,335,257, in the vaccination campaign.

As of yesterday morning, a total of 7,799,736 vaccination doses had been administered in Bangkok of which 1,041,844 were given to people aged 60 and over.

Opas Karnkawinpong, director-general of the Department of Disease Control (DDC), said more than 50% of the elderly had been vaccinated in eight provinces.

They are Pathum Thani, Samut Sakhon, Chachoengsao, Samut Prakan, Phangnga, Phuket, Ranong and Bangkok.

He stressed the need for authorities in 29 provinces in "maximum and strict control zones" to speed up inoculation of the elderly, people living with one or more chronic diseases and pregnant women.

Dr Opas said vaccination is key to reducing severe cases and fatalities while noting that the infection rate in the provinces is about 56% while that in Bangkok is about 44%.
