Activist fumes over special treatment to VIPs

Social activist Srisuwan Janya will ask the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to probe dereliction of duty charges against anyone involved in giving a fourth jab to VIPs.

His move followed a media report that two doctors at Ramathibodi Hospital were given a fourth Pfizer jab.

He said he was also surprised when an assistant to the Public Health Minister had said that about 200 people have been given a fourth jab.

Mr Srisuwan said the matter reflected social inequality in society as more than 50 million Thais had not yet received their first dose.

Mr Srisuwan, who is secretary-general of the Association for the Protection of the Thai Constitution, said the Ramathibodi Hospital director later said the two physicians are medical personnel who are about to study in Canada. But Canada didn't open the country for Sinovac vaccine recipients, so the pair requested Pfizer vaccine.

Despite that, he said he will petition the NACC in Nonthaburi today investigate anyone who is involved with giving a fourth shot of vaccines to VIPs.

The government has denied it intends giving VIPs the much-coveted Pfizer jabs, which were donated by the US.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Nongnamdaeng Tambon Administrative Organisation (TAO) in Nakhon Ratchasima's Pak Chong district admitted he would get AstraZeneca vaccine as the fourth shot as reported on social media.

Pakchongnana Hospital director Narongsak Bamrungthin said Nongnamdaeng TAO chairman Suthin Bangprasit, 72, had already received two shots of Sinovac in June and July but would get more.
