China to donate B50m of Covid medical supplies

The Chinese government has pledged to donate medical supplies worth 10 million yuan (about 50 million baht) to Thailand to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Chinese embassy in Bangkok said yesterday it planned to donate essential medical supplies such as pulse oximeters and oxygen concentrators to Thailand to aid its fight against the virus.

China will stand with Thailand in overcoming the crisis, according to its message on Facebook.

The donation of supplies was pledged after Beijing handed over a second lot of 500,000 doses of the Sinovac vaccine on June 5.

In total, China has donated one million doses of vaccine to Thailand to date.

Han Zhiqiang, the new Chinese ambassador to Thailand, said bilateral exchanges and cooperation have brought the countries closer together.

China and Thailand are fighting the pandemic shoulder to shoulder and helping each other through a challenging time, he said.

Mr Han, who arrived in Thailand early this month to take up his post, stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in the fight against Covid-19.

All sectors have been making a concerted effort to eradicate infections and he is confident the pandemic will eventually be overcome.
