There were 14,403 new Covid-19 cases and 189 more fatalities recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Friday morning.
There were 14,062 cases in the general population and 341 among prison inmates.
On Thursday, 15,610 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,324,090 Covid-19 patients, 1,169,965 of whom have recovered to date.
Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,352,953 Covid-19 cases, with 1,197,391 complete recoveries so far.
The death toll stood at 13,826 during the third wave and 13,920 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The highest number of daily Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.
Taweesilp Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said in the afternoon briefing that the 189 new fatalities (down from 220 on the previous day) were between the ages of 21 and 103 years old, and included three Myanmar and one British nationals. One died at home in Nakon Sawan province.
Bangkok continued to log the most new deaths – 25 (down from 43 on the previous day) -- while a further 42 (down from 67) were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (14), Samut Sakhon (12), Pathum Thani (10) and Nonthaburi (6).
Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 72 more deaths (up from 69) – in Samut Songkhram (15), Chon Buri (14), Suphanburi (10), Ayutthaya (5), Chachoengsao (4), Ang Thong (4), Ratchaburi (4), Nakhon Nayok (4), Singburi (3), Rayong (3), Lop Buri (2), Saraburi (1), Kanchanaburi (1), Sa Kaeo (1) and Trat (1).
The Northeast had 15 new fatalities (up from 10) – in Nakhon Ratchasima (5), Ubon Ratchathani (4), Chaiyaphum (3), Udon Thani (2) and Sakon Nakhon (1).
The South reported 23 more deaths (up from 19) – in Pattani (6), Ranong (4), Nakhon Si Thammarat (3), Phuket (3), Narathiwat (3), Surat Thani (2), Yala (1) and Satun (1).
The North saw 12 new fatalities (unchaged) – in Tak (5), Nakhon Sawan (3), Kamphaeng Phet (1), Phichit (1), Phitsanulok (1) and Sukhothai (1).
The 14,403 new Covid-19 cases (down from 16,031 on the previous day) included 14,045 local infections and 17 imported cases. Of the local infections, 12,770 were confirmed at hospitals and 1,275 via mass testing.
Bangkok had 3,495 new cases (down from 3,736) including 289 migrants, followed by 1,037 in Samut Prakan (down from 1,197), 802 in Chon Buri (down from 1,594), 678 in Samut Sakhon (up from 643), 615 in Ratchaburi (up from 466), 496 in Nonthaburi (up from 433), 402 in Narathiwat (down from 455), 399 in Prachin Buri (up from 190), 393 in Rayong (down from 549) and 321 in Saraburi (down from 362).
Greater Bangkok reported 6,066 new cases (down from 6,318) and 67 new deaths (down from 110). Four southern border provinces had 1,097 new cases (down from 1,352) and 10 new fatalities (down from 14), while 67 other provinces recorded 6,882 new cases (down from 7,721) and 112 new deaths (up from 96).
Covid-19 outbreaks were declining in the country but caseloads remained heavy in 29 maximum and strict controlled provinces, Dr Taweesilp said.
The 17 imported cases were from Belgium (1), the United States (1), Malaysia (2) and Cambodia (13).
On Thursday 141,642 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 143,038 on the previous day), including 4,330 seriously ill patients suffering lung inflammation (down from 4,363) and 915 dependent on ventilators (down from 940).
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 605,902 in 24 hours (up from 598,952) to 224.00 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 9,526 (down from 9,754) to 4.62 million.
The United States had the most cases at 41.56 million, up 160,748 (up from 157,759), and the most deaths at 674,547, up 1,929 (from 1,700).
There were outbreaks of the Mu variant of Covid-19 in the US, Dr Taweesilp said.
