Din Daeng residents seek compensation for protest damage

Residents in areas around Din Daeng intersection and Vibhavadi-Rangsit highway are seeking compensation for damage to property caused during the daily clashes between protesters and riot police.
They have filed complaints with the Metropolitan Police Bureau.
Deputy commissioner Pol Maj Gen Piya Tawichai told reporters on Wednesday that most of the complainants were from Din Daeng housing flats.
They filed a complaint with Din Daeng police on Tuesday demanding compensation from the protesters, the official police spokesman said.
Pol Maj Gen Piya said police had not pursued protesters through the buildings. However, if there was clear evidence of police causing any damage they would accept responsibility.
According to the spokesman, many people had also filed separate complaints with Din Daeng police accusing protesters of assaulting residents and causing serious injuries.
The complaints were being investigated.
On Tuesday night the rallly by the Thalugaz group continued until about 2am, he said. As before, the protesters threw flares, large fire crackers and ping ping bombs at police.
The protesters also scattered metal spikes on Vibhavadi-Rangsit, Ding Daeng and Pra Ram 9 roads that damaged many vehicles, some of them worth several million baht. The car owners had also filed complaints with Din Daeng police, Pol Maj Gen Piya said.
He said one juvenile had been arrested in connection with the burning of the entrance gateway to the Din Daeng expressway. Charges the young person may face included lese majeste under Section 112 of the Criminal Code, Pol Maj Gen Piya said.
