13,897 new Covid cases, 188 more deaths

There were 13,897 new Covid-19 cases and 188 more fatalities recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Thursday morning.

There were 13,503 cases in the general population and 394 in prisons.

 

On Wednesday, 13,527 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the corona virus. 

 

The figures compare with 13,798 new cases and 144 fatalities on Tuesday, as reported by the CCSA  on Wednesday.

 

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,405,374 Covid-19 patients, 1,263,130 of whom have recovered to date.

 

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,434,237 Covid-19 cases, with 1,290,775 complete recoveries so far.

 

The death toll stood at 14,859 during the third wave and 14,953 since the beginning of the pandemic.

 

The kingdom’s largest number of daily Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.

 

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said in its afternoon briefing that Greater Bangkok (Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon) had 129 of the total new deaths. Other deaths were reported in 42 provinces.


Bangkok also led new infections with 2,886 cases, followed by 1,455 in Samut Prakan and 973 Chon Buri. There were nine infections from overseas, five from Cambodia and one each from Israel, the United States, Myanmar and Malaysia.

 

The CCSA said the government planned to inoculate half of the population in every province by the end of next month, and set up a Covid-free district in every province. It will give booster shots to people who received two shots between March and May, with the focus on areas hit hardest by the virus and locations with many factories.


Global Covid-19 cases rose by 562,484 in 24 hours to 227,253,177. The worldwide death toll went up by 10,200 to 4,673,494. The United States had the most cases at 42,479,780, up 164,509 and the most deaths at 685,023, up 2,282.
